We just had the 'Woman goes mad with power, so she has to be put down by her close male companion who loves her but recognizes he must kill her' trope play out in the worst possible way with Game of Thrones, and I don't want to see it play out with Cortana. What I want this to subvert is the typical trope formula. You know we're gonna save the day as Master Chief again, somehow someway. The main difference seems to be implying that Cortana has already won, but.it's Halo. Cortana takes the place of Gravemind in wanting to forcefully take over the universe under hte impression that they benefit most from them and the elites and USNC have once again allied themselves against a common enemy, with the chief being MIA until he's later found by a UNSC crew member. So, idk if you notice this, but this is very similar to the plot set up of Halo's 2 and 3. Halo 5 ends with Cortana having gone mad and rallying Ai's to her cause and taking over Forerunner tools including the Halo array, Master Chief heading off to stop her, and Locke and crew going back to the Arbiter and Sarah Palmer so they can plan a counter attack.
